Yoga 4 Survivors Book Club:
Life Over Cancer, by Dr. Keith Block, MD
This book is empowering and action-oriented, giving you useful tips on health, nutrition, and life balance during and after diagnosis. It provides helpful information on how to build your best support system, and talks about recent research related to overall wellness. A great resource for all who are affected by cancer.
And in Health: A Guide for Couples Facing Cancer Together, by Dan Shapiro, PhD, Health Psychologist
Topics include: how to forge into a team and evade conflict, dealing with physicians and getting the best care, tips for navigating the medical world, coping with emotions, distinguishing between draining and supportive people, learning to accept help, opening to intimacy, making peace with dependence
Cancer: The Emperor of all Maladies
A wonderfully well-written book and a ground-breaking documentary. Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee compiles a historical account, a biography, on cancer. It's personal, medical, humble, and awe-inspiring. It documents the dark places where we started, and sheds light on the momentous amounts of work that is currently being completed. New treatment options provide a new-found hope to patients, and a societal push towards prevention encourages us to do our part, to do what we can, what is in our control. Although thick, the book is a fast read, and the documentary is in three parts. It's worth your time and attention.

Emotional Freedom, by Dr. Judith Orloff
This book helped me to practice the inside stuff :) It helped me to work on the aspects of the self that caused me stress and pain. She's a wonderful writer and an inspiring, strong woman.
Making Friends with Death: A Buddhist Guide to Encountering Mortality, by Judith Leif
A wonderfully down-to-earth read about how we perceive, interact with, and treat death. It created an abundance of inner change.
Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom
For me, this is one of "those books", that you return to when you need a familiar friend. It's a beautiful story with strong life lessons.
The Power of Now and/or A New Earth, By Eckhart Tolle
Often referred to as one of the most influential spiritual leaders of our time, Eckhart Tolle has been instrumental in my mindfulness and meditative work. His ability to apply simple, basic, logical ideas to our lives almost makes the stress melt away instantly :)
When Panic Attacks and Feeling Good, by Dr. David Burns, MD
Sometimes, when I'm feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and sadness, I need practicality in my life. These two books have given me real-world tools to work through times of stress and worry. The books offer worksheets within the pages and real-world behavioral techniques to help alleviate feelings that don't feel good. I love a good philosophical read, but sometimes, I just need someone to tell me what to do :)
The Happiness Project, by Gretchen Rubin
A light-hearted look at how we, alone, control our own happiness. Just good stuff :)
Why Zebra Don't Get Ulcers, by Dr. Robert Sapolsky
A hilarious read on stress! How our bodies create it, what causes it, and how it truly affects our lives. Great read.
Taming Your Gremlin, by Rick Carson
The inside work! How to work with our own self-defeating inner voice and create a more positive relationship with our true self.
The Profit, by Kahlil Gibran
Some of the most poetic and most beautiful philosophies of our time. I love getting lost in this book.
Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Crockett Johnson
Yep, a true kids book. It's still my favorite, because it evokes imagination, creativity, and wonder into all who read it. And, it's just fun :)
